Stephen Owens is representing Gwyneth Paltrow in the 2016 Utah ski accident trial against Terry Sanderson. The Oscar-winning actor began testifying on Friday.

Terry Sanderson claims that Paltrow’s recklessness caused him lasting physical injuries. She says the clash on the slopes was his responsibility.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s lawyer Stephen Owens apologised to a witness for his behaviour during cross-examination. Polly Sanderson Grasham is one of the two daughters of Terry Sanderson.

Owens, during cross-examination, questioned Polly about her early life. He asked her if she and her sister Jenny was lying about her claims that Terry was abusive towards her.

Polly disagreed. She said that Sanderson attempted to mould Jenny, but things were not as bad as they were claimed.

“I need to apologize. I was being an a** earlier. It was wrong for me to triangulate you, your dad and your sister and your mom, and I ask for your forgiveness,” Owens later said.

Who is Stephen Owens?

Stephen Owens, also known as Stephen W. Owens, is Gwyneth Paltrow’s lawyer in the ski accident trial. He was the President of the Utah State Bar and also served as a clerk for Justice Richard Howe of the Utah Supreme Court.

He received a rating of AV Preeminent (highest) from Martindale-Hubbell and was named a Legal Elite in Healthcare Law by Utah Business Magazine.

In the past, Owens has defended several clients and obtained four successful verdicts in a year. He was also the Commissioner for the Utah State Bar for six years. Hr received the national Harry S. Truman Scholarship for his leadership and public service.

Owens is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and the Utah Defense lawyers’ Association. He is a father of two daughters and has three grandchildren.
