Wrestler Dalip Singh Rana, professionally known as The Great Khali joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday, ahead of the Punjab Assembly polls.

Dalip Singh Rana aka The Great Khali is a professional wrestler and actor who is known for his stint at the WWE. He is a former world champion and a WWE Hall of Famer.

Khali was born on August 27, 1972, in Dhiraina, Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh to parents Jwala Ram and Tandi Devi. Born in a poor family, he had to do odd jobs to make ends meet. He suffers from acromegaly which causes gigantism and chin protrusion. Rana was serving as a security guard in Shimla when he got inducted into Punjab Police in 1993. After joining Punjab Police, Rana trained in the local gyms of Jalandhar to become a wrestler and soon he got selected for specialized wrestling training in the United States.

Rana moved to the USA to pursue his career as a wrestler. From 2000 to 2006, he worked with several major promotions in the world such as WCW, NJPW, CMLL and AJPW.

In 2006, Rana was signed with WWE for Smackdown and they renamed him as The Great Khali. During his time on SmackDown, he defeated The Undertaker, Kane, Rey Mysterio, Ric Flair and Bautista.

From 2009 to 2021, he was drafted between RAW, SmackDown and a few sporadic appearances for NXT. In 2017, his contract expired and was released from the company. In 2021, Khali was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. He appeared on Wrestlemania and RAW. In 2015, Khali started his own wrestling school in Punjab and is currently working as a promoter.
