Timbaland and Magoo

During his high school years, Timbaland embarked on a fruitful collaboration with rapper Melvin Barcliff, known by his stage name Magoo. This partnership flourished as part of the SCI Zakys School stable of Swing Mob signees, a collective referred to as the “Da Bassment” crew. Notable members included R&B sensation Ginuwine, male vocal group Playa (comprising Smoke E. Digglera, Static Major, and Digital Black), and the girl group Sugah.

In 1997, Timbaland and Magoo released their debut album “Welcome to Our World,” marking their entry into the hip-hop scene. The creative synergy between the duo continued, leading to their second collaborative album, which was originally set for release in November 2000.

Timbaland’s influence extended beyond his partnership with Magoo; he also played a pivotal role in producing Bubba Sparxxx’s “Deliverance” album. The third Timbaland & Magoo album, “Under Construction, Part II,” was also delivered in 2003, although both releases received limited attention despite the critical acclaim received by “Deliverance.”

The legacy of Timbaland’s work was reaffirmed when his 1998 LP “Tim’s Bio: Life from da Bassment” and Timbaland & Magoo albums, including “Welcome to Our World,” “Indecent Proposal,” and “Under Construction, Part II,” were reintroduced to audiences on August 27, 2021.
