Mary Quant, a British fashion designer who popularized the miniskirt, passed away at the age of 93. The PA news agency received a statement from her family stating that she “died peacefully at home in Surrey, UK this morning.” Her family praised her for being  “was one of the most internationally recognized fashion designers of the 20th century and an outstanding innovator of the Swinging Sixties”.

Quant who was one of the most influential figures in the fashion scene was married to Alexander Plunkett-Greene.

Who was Alexander Plunkett-Greene?

Alexander Plunkett-Greene,born in 1932, was a fashion entrepreneur. He was married to renowned fashion designer Mary Quant. The two had a son named Orlando who was born in 1969.

They were married from 1957 till his death in 1990.

He met his wife Quant while she was studying for her diploma in art instruction at Goldsmiths College. He later helped build her brand.

In 1955, the two established the Bazaar store on Kings Road. Crowds began to gather outside the entrance as the shop quickly evolved into a hotspot for the young and fashionable.

His wife served as the face of the London Youthquake. She made the miniskirt the a piece of apparel for a new generation of young women, despite the fact that she is frequently mistakenly recognized as the creator of it. She was constantly photographed and was virtually always wearing a mini, notably on the occasion of earning her OBE in 1966. She was known for her Vidal Sassoon hairstyle and growing image as the face of Swinging London. Quant not only wore miniskirts, but also created them.

She led the fashion revolution of the 1960s, which for the first time gave youngsters the center stage. Her attire was vibrant, colorful, cozy, and straightforward, drawing design cues from school uniforms and subcultures like the mods.
