American actor Jessica Walter died in her sleep at the age of 80 on March 25, Thursday.  

Walter was born in Brooklyn and attended New York City’s High School of Performing Arts. She performed and acted in film, broadway and television. Making her first debut soon after attending the school of performing arts, Jessica jumped into film and television. 

Her first major role was of “Evelyn Draper” in “Play Misty for Me”. She got a Golden Globes nomination for best actress in a drama in 1972 for this role.  

She won the Emmy award for outstanding lead actress in 1975 in a movie or mini-series for her work in Amy Prentiss. Her most critically acclaimed role which earned her an Emmy nomination was in the television comedy “Arrested Development”. Walter plays the icy matriarch “Lucille Bluth” in the show which debuted in 2003.

Her next big project was the FX animated series “Archer”. For 11 seasons, Jessica voiced Malory Archer in the show. She has also served as second national vice president, Screen Actors Guild.

She has one daughter Brooke Bowman, who released a statement expressing grief about her mother’s passing.

It said, “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of my beloved mom Jessica. A working actor for over six decades, her greatest pleasure was bringing joy to others through her storytelling both on-screen and off. While her legacy will live on through her body of work.”

She also starred opposite her late husband, Ron Leibman in the revival of Anything Goes in 2011 which won a Tony award. 

Friends, fans and admirers have been flooding Twitter with condolences ever since the news of her passing away was announced. 

Fans are remembering her portrayal of the many diverse roles Walter had played on the big screen over the years. 

Her daughter Bowman said in her statement, “she will also be remembered by many for her wit, class and overall joie de vivre.”
