Bogdanovich was born in Kingston, New York in 1939. He started his career as a critic, writing articles for Esquire. He then moved to Los Angeles in the mid-1960s, where he struck up friendships with director Roger Corman. He secured his first directing project, making the sci-fi picture ‘Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women.’

The murder of his girlfriend Dorothy Stratten and his subsequent marriage to her younger sister, Louise, who was 29 years his junior, also became a topic of discussion.

Bogdanovich’s output remained prolific in the 1980s and 1990s, including a sequel to “The Last Picture Show” called “Texasville,” the country music romantic drama “The Thing Called Love” and “The Cat’s Meow.”

He also played the role of Dr. Elliot Kupferberg in the HBO mob drama The Sopranos.
