Actress Sonya Eddy, known for her work on General Hospital, died aged 55, according to her close friend Octavia Spencer.

On Tuesday, Spencer announced the news on social media saying that Eddy died Monday night.

“The world lost another creative angel”… noting her “legions” of fans will truly miss her. The cause of her death was not know immediately.

Who was Sonya Eddy?

Sonya Eddy was was born in Concord, California. She majored in Theatre and Dance at University of California, Davis. Eddy was a licensed vocational nurse (LVN).

She made her acting debut in the Ruby Dee’s play Zora Is My Name in 1990. She gained fame with her role in “General Hospital” starting in 2006. She appeared in 543 episodes of the long-running soap opera.

She played Epiphany Johnson, a head nurse that was the mother of the late Stan Johnson. Eddy moved to Los Angeles and appeared in a number of television sitcoms, including Married… with Children, The Drew Carey Show, Murphy Brown, Seinfeld and Home Improvement.

From 2004 to 2005, she had a recurring role in the CBS drama series, Joan of Arcadia. From 2007 to 2008 she also was a regular cast member on the prime-time spin-off, General Hospital: Night Shift. From 2016 to 2019, she played Tammy in the truTV comedy series, Those Who Can’t. Her other television credits including Glee, Mike & Molly, 2 Broke Girls, The Middle, Mom, Castle, and the recurring role on Fresh Off the Boat.

Little detail is known about Eddy’s personal life.
