Xavier López Rodríguez, the Mexican actor and comedian, died aged 88 on Saturday, March 24. He was suffering from illnesses and died of an abdominal complication, per his family.

“This is a very sad morning, Xavier Lopez Chabelo, father, brother and husband has left us suddenly, cause if abdominal complications. With a broken soul and knowing that many people have loved him for many years and will feel his departure, we ask you to pray for his rest and give us the opportunity to pass in peace the grief that overwhelms the entire family,” Chabelo’s family said in a statement posted on Twitter.

Chabelo married Triesta Miranda in 1981 and they have three children together: Oscar, Javier, and Juan Gabriel. According to reports, Miranda owns several businesses in Mexico, including her most famous co-venture with Chabelo- the restaurant chain Chabelo’s. The comedian and TV show host was previously married to Angelita Castany.

Chabelo had been entertaining audiences for over 60 years. Born in Chicago in 1935, he began his career in the entertainment industry at a young age, appearing in films and on radio shows. Before that, he studied medicine and also worked as a doctor for several years.

He is best known for his long-running children’s television program En Familia con Chabelo, which aired for over 48 years, making it one of the longest-running television shows in the world. Chabelo’s infectious energy, warm personality, and devotion to entertaining and educating children have earned him the love and admiration of generations of viewers in Mexico and beyond.

As per sources online, the late comedian’s net worth was around $5 million.
