September 1 kickstarted the National Nutrition Week aimed at improving lifestyle by focusing on good nutrition and the subsequent dos and don’ts. Nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar and her team shared a video recently on heart conditions and high blood pressure.

Tips to follow for a healthy heart and normal blood pressure:

Diet tips

A nutritional diet is imperative. It is advised to have a handful of peanuts and cashews daily in order to give resveratrol to the body. However, any kind of alcohol adversely affects the heart. Magnesium present in peanuts regulates blood pressure.

Also, say yes to a seasonal fruit every day. Be it banana or mango, it is essential to keep the heart healthy. Additionally, make ghee your best friend. Contrary to popular belief, it is loaded with good fats and accelerates digestion.

Finally, it is important to understand that the benefits of salt are best enjoyed if it is used while cooking instead of being sprinkled on the top. However, the intake should be controlled and regulated.

Exercise regularly

To keep the heart healthy and blood pressure levels normal, it is essential to move and work out. If nothing, 150 minutes of each week should be reserved for exercising

Proper Sleep

Sleep is so underrated. With benefits beyond comprehension, it should be included in the routine as a must. It was advised in the video that “30 minutes prior to bedtime, all gadgets should be switched off to calm the mind and the heart and prepare it for a nice sleep.” She further suggested that one can rub a bit of ghee in the soles of their feet to help the body calm down. Good sleep is a gamechanger in that it regulates body health and keeps the heart healthy. Furthermore, it maintains blood pressure levels too.
