India’s COVID-19 tally has crossed the 50 lakh mark with a spike of  90,123 new cases on Tuesday, as per data released by the Union Health Ministry.

India now has 50,20,360 cases, second to only the United States. According to the ministry, 1,290 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours. As many as 82,066 people have lost their lives to the virus, since the disease outbreak.

Currently, there are 995,933 active cases in the country and 39,42,361 have been cured/discharged/migrated.

The Indian Council of Medical Research said, that 5,94,29,115 samples were tested up to September 15 and of these 11,16,842 samples were tested on Tuesday.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan in his brief during the Monsoon Session on Tuesday said that India has been able to limit its cases and deaths per million to 3,320 and 55 respectively, while the fatality and recovery rates in the country stand at 1.67% and 77.65%, respectively.
