India on Saturday recorded 43,846 new COVID-19 cases, the Health Ministry’s data released on Sunday showed. 197 people died of the disease in the past 24 hours. Till now, India has recorded 11,599,130 novel coronavirus cases and 159,755 deaths.

There are 309,087 active virus cases, while 11,130,288 have recovered.

India started its mass vaccination drive against COVID-19 on January 16. Till now, 44,603,841 people have received at least one dose of either of the two vaccines approved by India.

‘Covishield’ and ‘Covaxin’ are the two jabs approved by the country. Covaxin is India’s indigenous vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech. Covishield is AstraZeneca/University of Oxford’s vaccine, which is being manufactured in India at Pune’s Serum Institute.
