India recorded 85,362 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health’s data released on Saturday. The total cases in the country has reached 5,903,933.

The death toll has increased to 93,379, with 1,089 new deaths being recorded over the past 24 hours.

Since the pandemic hit India, a total of 4,849,585 people have recovered from the disease or have been discharged, health ministry data suggests. Currently, there are 960,969 active cases in the country.

According to the Indian Centre of Medical Research, 70,269,975 samples tested up to September 25. Of these, 1,341,535 samples were tested over the past 24 hours.

India has emerged as the second-worst hit nation by COVID-19. The United States remains the worst-hit country, with over seven million cases and more than 200,000 deaths, as per the tally by John Hopkins University.

Since the coronavirus outbreak was first reported in December, last year in China, the disease has infected over 32 million people worldwide and killed nearly a million of them.
