A woman from the Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh, whose husband is in jail under UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, on Tuesday, said that she suffered a miscarriage due to medical negligence, ANI reports.

The 22-year-old alleged that she was given drugs at Meerut’s district hospital after which she started bleeding. “I was given injection and I started bleeding. I don’t know what injection was that,” she said.

When asked about why she was admitted to the hospital, the woman informed that she was having a stomach ache for the past one week.

“I was in Nari Niketan for 7-8 days during which I started experiencing stomach ache. I had told the incharge about it, but she did not give me medicine. My condition deteriorated and I was admitted to a hospital on 11th December. I later came to know that I had a miscarriage,” she added.

However, the hospital has denied all the allegations saying the drugs were given to stop the patient’s bleeding.

“She was given medicines to stop bleeding & pain. Ultrasound showed foetus but no heartbeat. TVS (transvaginal ultrasound) was advised & she was referred to Meerut. Her relatives wanted to take her in their private vehicle. Allegations are false,” the Medical Superintendent of the district hospital told media.

Notably, the victim’s Muslim husband and his brother were arrested by the police on December 6 under Uttar Pradesh’s new anti-conversion law when he visited the registrar’s office to record his marriage to his Hindu wife.

A video clip purportedly showed Bajrang Dal activists asking the couple if the woman had given notice to the local district magistrate over her intention to change her religion, a requirement under the new UP ordinance.

The woman said she is an adult and married the man a few months ago of her free will. It was not immediately known whether she also changed her religion.
