Aadhar is a 12-digit unique
identification number issued by the government of India to every resident of
the country. There is no age limit for applying for an Aadhar card, even new born
children can have their own Aadhar cards.

On Tuesday, the Unique Identification Authority
of India (UIDAI) said that a child’s birth certificate or a discharge slip from
the hospital along with the Aadhar card of either of the parents are enough to enrol
for the ‘Baal Aadhar’.

What
is Baal Aadhar?

Baal Aadhar is a blue-coloured variant of
the standard Aadhar card. It is specifically issued for children below the age
of five.

What
are the requirements?

No biometric details are required for
children under the age of 5 to get their Baal Aadhaar cards. When they reach
the age of five, a mandatory biometric update is required. Just the child’s
birth certificate or discharge slip is required.

Other documents that can be used as proof
of identity passport, PAN card, voter ID, driving license, NREGS job card, ets.
Documents that can be used as address proof are are passport, bank statement/passbook,
post office account statement, ration card, etc.

How
to enrol

Visit the UIDAI website, select
Aadhaar Card registration.

·     
Enter required details like
child’s name, biometric information, demographic details like residential
address, etc

·     
Click on Appointment to schedule
the registration

·     
Choose your enrolment center, select
appointment date. Take required documents with you

·     
Check your documents with the
Aadhaar officer

·     
Parents will get an acknowledgement
number to track progress of the application

·     
The Baal Aadhaar card will
reach you in 90 days
