Shah Rukh Khan, the Badshah of Bollywood is arguably one of the most successful actors of all time. Not just acting, He has found success in his other businesses. Apart from winning a number of acting awards and attaining worldwide popularity, SRK also has an honorary doctorate in Philanthropy from The University of Law, London. 

His current contributions toward the Covid-19 relief work proves work gives all his fans a right reason to call him Badshah. He has a sharp business mind, here’s a list of seven of his sources of income, other than cinema.  

Box Office earnings

According to a report in LiveMint, “Today, most of the top male stars, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar, command a share – ranging from 50 to 80 per cent – in the profits of a film, besides a flat upfront fee.” However, there isn’t much data on which films Shah Rukh Khan has had a profit share in – apart from the ones under Red Chillies Entertainment.

TV Shows

SRK started his acting career with daily soaps like Circus and Fauji which are being aired again on doordarshan during quarantine. In the more recent past, Shah Rukh Khan was also seen as a part of TV shows like Kaun Banega Croreoati, Season 3, Kya Aap Panchvi Pass se Tez hai? and Zor Ka Jhatka: Total Wipeout. According to a 2011 report by Times of India, SRK charged Rs 2.5 crore per episode for Zor ka Jhatka: Total Wipeout. 

Wedding performances

Weddings are a big part of Indian culture, especially The Big Fat Indian Weddings. Not many of you know, but SRK charges somewhere around Rs 4 to 8 crore for an appearance or a performance at the weddings.  

 Red Chillies Entertainment

In 2002 Shah Rukh Khan launched Red Chillies Entertainment along with wife Gauri Khan after the dissolution of SRK’s production house, Dreamz Unlimited, co-owned by Juhi Chawla and Aziz Mirza. Today, Red Chillies Entertainment is one of the most profitable production houses in the industry. According to a report by Economic Times, Red Chillies Entertainment is equipped with a full-fledged VFX studio and has an annual turnover of around Rs 500 crore.

KidZania

SRK owns 26 per cent of ImagiNation Edutainment India Pvt Ltd that runs the frachise’s (KidZania) India operations. Though the exact amount of his investment has not been disclosed, KidZania India’s Director and CEO Sanjeev Kumar mentioned in a Business Standard report that their projects in Mumbai cost nearly Rs 100 crore.

Kolkata Knight Riders

SRK has 55 per cent stake in this IPL franchise through Red Chillies Entertainment. According to a report in Financial Express, sponsors have to cough up anywhere between Rs 10 to 12 crore for their logo to be carried on the back of the KKR jersey and between Rs 8 to 22 crore for the front.

Endorsements

SRK draws a hefty paycheck when it comes to endorsements. He has been the face of Whirlpool, Nokia, Pepsi, Tag Heuer, Hyundai, Big Basket, Dish TV, and Byjus among others for many years now. Shah Rukh Khan charges around Rs 3.5 to 4 crore per day for an ad shoot, states a Business Insider’s report.
