Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on
Monday that he has ordered the state police to withdraw the FIR against Mizoram
MP K Vanlalvena.

However, the police will continue to probe the role
of six government officials who allegedly played a role in the deadly gun
battle between the two states at Lailapur in Cachar district.

Last week, the Assam police
team went to New Delhi and pasted a summon at the door of Vanlalvena’s
residence for interrogation after his alleged statement threatening to kill
more personnel if they cross over to Mizoram.

The Assam police on the other hand issued summons to six
officials of the Mizoram government, including the deputy commissioner and
superintendent of police of Kolasib district, and ordered them to appear at
Dholai police station on Monday.

The de-escalation in tensions comes after Mizoram
Chief Minister Zoramthanga issued a statement on Sunday that the boundary
dispute will be resolved amicably through dialogue.

The Mizoram Chief Minister had spoken to Home
Minister Amit Shah
and his counterpart in Assam. The dropping of the FIR seems
to be the result of said conversation.

The first step in the de-escalation of tensions occurred
with the Mizoram government announcing that it would withdraw cases against the
chief minister of Assam.

The Union government has told both Assam and
Mizoram that their security forces and officials will not be allowed to carry
arms while visiting the zone of conflict along Mizoram’s Kolasib and Assam’s
Cachar district.

Earlier, the Mizoram police had lodged an FIR
against the Assam chief minister and six government officials on criminal
charges including attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy at Vairengte police
station on July 26.

Mizoram chief secretary
Lalnunmawia Chuango said on Sunday that the government is ready to withdraw the
FIR against Sarma as that was not approved by the Mizoram chief minister.
