Pakistan captain Babar Azam and batter Imam-ul-Haq slammed centuries to steer Pakistan to a massive six-wicket win over Australia in the second One Day International (ODI) to level the three-match series.

Babar Azam scored 114 while Imam-ul-Haq played a 106 runs innings as Pakistan chased down a 349-run target with an over to spare.

Pakistan’s brilliant performance saw them bringing an end to their 10-match losing streak against Australia, who are playing the limited-overs cricket in Pakistan without several of their leading players. At present, Australia have a 13-member fit squad to make the XI after the white-ball squad in Lahore was rocked by COVID-19 outbreak.

In the second ODI, while playing a quickfire 114 runs knock off 83 balls captain Azam became the fastest to hit 15 hundreds in the 50-overs format. Azam took 83 innings to achieve the feat.

He surpassed former South Africa cricketer Hashim Amla for the feat. Amla took 86 innings to score 15 centuries in ODI cricket.

Former India captain Virat Kohli needed 106 innings to achieve the landmark feat. David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan took 108 innings each to score 15 hundreds.

In the first ODI, Pakistan suffered a crushing 88-run defeat. Following the defeat, Babar Azam was slammed by former cricketers for his slow strike rate.

In the second game, he took on the both spinners and pacers to score the hundred off 71 balls.

He eventually departed in the 45th over, with Pakistan needing 40 to win the match. He was caught at mid-wicket by Marnus Labuschagne in Nathan Ellis’ return spell. However, Khushdil Shah held his nerves and carried Pakistan home with two big sixes and two boudnaries.

The third and final ODI will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Saturday. Australia’s first tour of Pakistan in the 21st century will end with a T20I on Tuesday.

The series started on March 4 with the first Test in Rawalpindi.
