West Bengal government has extended lockdown in the containment zones of the state till September 30, news agency PTI reported quoting the state’s Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha.

As per the guidelines issued in Unlock 4 by the Centre, Metro Rail services will open in Kolkata from September 8 in a graded manner, the Chief Secretary added.

The state will additionally observe complete lockdown as per schedule on September 7, 11 and 12, Sinha said.

The state government had earlier announced these dates for complete lockdown in September, but the Centre, in its Unlock 4 guidelines issued on August 29, had made it clear that states cannot enforce local lockdown without prior consultation.

Schools, colleges and other educational centres will also remain closed till September 30, the order says. Furthermore, cinema halls swimming pools and parks will also remain closed till the date.
