Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar hailed the Supreme Court’s judgement on Wednesday, in which the apex court upheld the transfer of an FIR lodged in actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case at Patna to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
“Nyay ki jeet hui hain (justice has triumphed),” Kumar said, PTI reported.
SC on Wednesday upheld the transfer of an FIR lodged in Patna to the CBI, against actor Rhea Chakraborty, accusing her of abetting the suicide of Sushant Singh Rajput.
It said that Bihar government is competent to transfer the case to the central agency for investigation.
Kumar said that the SC “verdict makes it clear that probe by Bihar Police and FIR registered here were correct,” ANI reported. He added that not only the actor’s family, but people from Bihar and across the country are concerned about the matter, and with “CBI probe, people can trust there will be justice”.
He also accused the Mumbai Police of not cooperating over the issue. “Behaviour meted out to our IPS officer is known to all. With SC verdict, it’s clear what happened wasn’t right,” Kumar said.
“Any political comment in this situation isn’t right,” he added. “These things are not about politics, they are about justice. We are focused on providing justice. What was said, was not right,” he added.
Actor Rhea Chakraborty has alleged that the Bihar government’s action was inspired by the upcoming state polls.
Bihar’s Director General of Police Gupteswar Pandey said that the SC’s decision vindicates Bihar Police’s stand that it was doing things in accordance with the law and Constitution.
“I am happy with the apex courts order transferring the case to the CBI as it has further raised the hope for getting justice for Sushant Singh Rajput,” Pandey told reporters.
Meanwhile, Law & Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad too commented on the high-profile case.
“It’s a matter of great moment that SC has transferred the investigation to CBI. I would expect that CBI will now undertake a professional character & conduct a time-bound investigation,” the minister said, ANI reported.
“I’m sure his (Sushant’s) soul will now rest in peace that a fair investigation will happen,” he added and expressed appreciation for the actor’s family for their “courage & perseverance”.
KK Singh, father of the late actor filed an FIR with Rajiv Nagar police station in Patna last month accusing actor Rhea Chakraborty of abbeting his son’s suicide.
