BJP youth leader Pamela Goswami was on Friday arrested in Kolkata for allegedly carrying 100 gm cocaine worth a few lakhs, according to media reports.

Along with Goswami, who is General Secretary of Bengal BJP Yuva Morcha, her friend and Yuva Morcha colleague, Prabir Kumar Dey was also arrested, reported NDTV. Police nabbed them when the duo had driven up to a cafe on NR Avenue.

When police searched the vehicle, 100 gm of cocaine were allegedly found in pouches in Goswami’s purse as well as under the car seat. She screamed being framed as she was taken away. A security guard too was arrested as he was present in the car.

Following the arrest, BJP leader Samik Bhattacharya said, “The law will take its own course but was the cocaine put in the car by someone? The model code of conduct has still not kicked in. And the police is under state control. anything could have happened.”

Police said that Goswami and Dey were suspected after they repeatedly visited a particular cafe and transacted with youth driving their in their vehicles. 

Trinamool Congress leader Chandrima Bhattacharya said, “I feel ashamed something like this could happen in Bengal. This is the real picture emerging of (the) BJP in Bengal. Earlier, some BJP leaders were named in a child trafficking case.”
