CSK had their worst-ever season in the IPL last year, missing out on the playoffs for the first time ever. With key players, such as Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh, missing and an ageing core, the Mahindra Singh Dhoni-led side were looking to revamp their squad ahead of this year’s edition.

They released six players, including Shane Watson (retired), Murali Vijay, Harbhajan Singh, Kedar Jadhav, Piyush Chawla and Monu Singh.

They spent big on English all-rounder Moeen Ali, buying him for Rs 7 crore, and Krishnappa Gowtham, coughing up Rs 9.25 crore for the spinner.
