Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged Hathras gang rape case, reported ANI on Saturday quoting the Chief Minister’s Office.

A Dalit woman was allegedly assaulted by four upper-caste men on September 14, in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh.

She was initially admitted to the Aligarh Muslim University’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital.

She was shifted to AIIMS, Delhi on Monday after her condition showed no signs of improvement. Following this, she was again shifted to Safdarjung Hospital.

The 19-year-old woman succumbed to severe injuries she suffered when she was allegedly assaulted by four upper-caste men in the fields at her village in Hathras district on September 14.

She was cremated in Hathras in the dead of the night with family members saying they were not allowed to bring the body home one last time. But police claimed they had the family’s consent for the cremation.

Earlier on Saturday, The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which was probing into the death of a Dalit teenager after her alleged gangrape, completed its work stated a Hathras administration official.

He added that the administration has also lifted restrictions on the entry of media into the village. This comes a day after outsiders, including politicians, were prohibited from meeting the victim’s family.

“Only the entry of media has been allowed into the village of the victim as the probe of the SIT has completed,” Joint Magistrate Prem Prakash Meena was quoted as saying.

Meena denied claims that the administration had confiscated the phones of the victim’s family and confined them.

Amid country-wide outrage over the incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had on Wednesday formed a three-member SIT which was instructed to submit its report by October 14, according to officials.

The Hathras administration had on Thursday clamped prohibitory orders under CrPC section 144, which bars assembly of more than four people, in the district where political parties had reached and staged protest to demand justice for the 19-year-old, who died earlier this week, a fortnight after her alleged gangrape here.
