Every year on November 14th, India commemorates the birthday of the country’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, by celebrating Children’s Day.

The 14th of November is also known as Bal Diwas, as it is celebrated as a reminder that children are the nation’s true strength. The importance of educating and nurturing the next generation is also emphasised on this day.

Nehru believed that today’s children would shape the country’s future. He had a special place in his heart for children, and his affection for them earned him the nickname ‘Chacha Nehru.’

The purpose of Children’s Day is to talk about the importance of children in nation-building and to focus on children’s rights, not just in the country but around the world.

Across the country, the day is primarily observed in schools and educational institutions. Cultural activities, quizzes, and other competitions are held for the purpose of educating and empowering children. On this day, special guests and dignitaries are also invited to educational institutes to inspire, celebrate, and empower children. Students from various schools join together for extracurricular activities and to honour the significance of this day.

Here are some ideas for how people across the country to celebrate Children’s Day:

— This year, throw a special party (as per COVID-19 protocols, of course) to celebrate Children’s Day and educate them about it.

— A movie marathon of children’s films from around the world can be held.

– Organize a quiz for kids to learn about the history of Children’s Day as well as their rights.

— Hold a reading session in which children are introduced to inspirational people from around the world.

— Take your child to the park and plan some outdoor games where he or she can show initiative and leadership.

— Hold a photo shoot with your children and show them photos from your own childhood

— Organize a cultural show where children can show off whatever talents they have.
