Angry at their party not winning a single
seat in Surat, workers of the Congress party created a ruckus at the office in
the city, burning effigies of city Congress leaders Babu Raika and Kadir
Pirzada, according to a report in News 18.

In a major setback for the party in the
Gujarat civic body polls, which started on February 21, it was not even leading
in any of the seats it was contesting form in the city. At 5 pm, the state
election commission declared the results for 451 of the 576 seats, with the Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP) the clear winner with 367 wins.

The Congress had won a total of just 58
seats while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made unexpected gains with 27 seats. The
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) win three seats while four seats were won by others.

In Surat, the BJP bagged 97 seats, while
the AAP emerged as the second-largest party with 27 wins, while the Congress failed
to win a single seat.

As the results started to take shape, Chief
Minister Vijay Rupani and Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel thanked the voters
and the party workers for the result.

“The grand victory of the Bharatiya Janata
Party in the elections of six municipal corporations is the victory of the people
of Gujarat. This is a grand victory of the politics of development started by
Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi,” he tweeted in Gujarati.
