The Broad of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday handed over contact tracing electronic badges to all teams of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in order to fight COVID-19, reported ANI. The electronic badges must be worn the players, support staff, and even family members of players present in UAE.

Special restrictions have been put in place for proper conduction of the IPL in Dubai, reported ANI citing officials. The IPL is scheduled to start from September 19 in UAE.

According to reports, a franchise official said that all teams were handed over small badges resembling whistles that has to be worn by everyone in close proximity to the team. The devices are blue-tooth enabled and will help in contact tracing as the data would be transmitted directly to the BCCI.

“The BCCI has put in place a robust system which sees not just the players, but also the support staff, officials and family members travelling with them wearing these BEEKs badges. It will give the board a detailed report on who all we are coming in contact with the players by using data on movement and interaction. This actually helps if someone, unfortunately, gets infected,” said the BCCI official.

The badges could be opened inside the respective rooms, but an individual deciding to step out of their designated rooms will have to wear them at all times.

The official added that the badge could also be opened when a player entered the field of play.

According to the report, every travelling member of the IPL contingent has been asked to install a health app and on which they will have to log their daily body temperature.
