The Ashok Gehlot-led Rajasthan government on Saturday submitted a proposal to Governor Kalraj Mishra asking to start the Assembly Session from July 31st.

The Rajasthan government has proposed to start session to discuss the coronavirus situation in the state and other bills. However, there is no mention of floor test in the proposal, news agency ANI reported quoting sources.

The Congress government in the state has been pushing for the Assembly session so that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot can prove his majority. This came after the High Court’s ruling on Friday to maintain a ‘status quo’ dismissing the disqualification of sacked Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot and 18 other rebel MLAs.

Rajasthan Assembly Speaker CP Joshi had issued a disqualification the 19 MLAs after they did not attend party meetings, two times in a row, even after a whip was issued.

Congress has alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party has been trying to “topple government” in the state, after Sachin Pilot, along with 18 other dissident Congress MLAs, revolted against the Rajasthan government.

Gehlot has the support of 88 MLAs in the 200-member state assembly and the BJP 72. He also claims the support of 13 independent MLAs, taking his numbers to 101, bare minimum needed for the government to survive.
