Popular Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi was detained on Thursday in connection with the human trafficking case after being given a two-year prison sentence by the Patiala Court.

Daler allegedly promised a number of individuals that he could unlawfully move them abroad, particularly to the USA and Canada. He claimed they may travel with his dance group to international performances. In return, he would expect large sums of money.

Daler Mehndi released ‘Bolo Ta Ra Ra‘ in 1995 as his debut album. The album continues to be the best-selling Indian pop record that isn’t from a movie. The album reportedly sold 20 million copies.
