The third Test of the four-match series between India and Australia started on Thursday with Australians opting to bat first and ending the first day at 166/2. On the crease were Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith.

Smith as everyone knows has been in a rather bad form this series. As he struggled to get back in form, his wife Dani Willis posted a video on her Instagram story where he could be seen shadow batting in full gear in his room. Willis captioned the story, “Like a kid on Christmas Eve.”

Smith, who can be regarded as on of the greatest to play Test cricket in modern times, has not been his in his true form and registered single digits scores in each of his last three innings. He was even dethroned as the top-ranked batsman prior to this innings by New Zealand’s Kane Williamson.

Smith, however, looks to be back in his rhythm after remaining unbeaten on 31 off 64 deliveries. He hit star pacer Jasprit Bumrah for a boundary at mid-on in just his eighth delivery to set the tone for his innings. He then followed it up by hitting a couple of boundaries off Navdeep Saini in the very next over.

Ever since his return to Test cricket following his year-long ban due to  the ball-tampering controversy, Smith has been more desperate to prove himself and play match-winning knocks.
