Delhi Capitals, an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, requested the BCCI on Saturday for COVID-19 vaccination of its players before the kick-off of the cash-rich tournament on April 9.

A DC source told PTI that vaccination may start with the Indian players as the team gears up for entering a bio-secure bubble next week for the most-awaited IPL.

The source added that the BCCI is in talks with the Union Health Ministry who are planning on getting the Olympic-bound athletes vaccinated.

According to PTI, the BCCI is not going to consider the foreign players as of now. DC players will start the quarantine of seven days from Tuesday before starting to train in Mumbai.

He said that the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) regarding the safety measures that have to be taken in view for the coronavirus pandemic has not yet been shared by the BCCI.

The COVID-19 cases have been on a new rise in the country with more than 40,000 new cases being registered on Saturday.
