Farmers, protesting against the three new farm laws enacted by the government at different points of the Delhi border, are on a day-long hunger strike on Monday. Farmer leaders on Saturday announced that they will hold a hunger strike and protests will be held in other parts of the country, in a bid to intensify their protest against the agriculture laws that were passed in September.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Kailash Chaudhary on Sunday said that the government will soon confirm the date of the next round of talks with farmers. As of now, the Centre and the farmer leaders have held five rounds of talks, all of them remained inconclusive. The sixth round of talks was cancelled after farmer leaders rejected the government’s proposed draft to amend certain provisions in the laws.
Protesting farmers are demanding the complete withdrawal of farm laws, saying that they would pave the way for eliminating the safety cushion of MSP and do away with the mandis.
