Delhi Cheif Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that the national capital will receive a batch of Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine after June 20, reported ANI.

Kejriwal said that the drug is currently in the importing phase and its production in India is likely to begin in August.

Sputnik V is a Russian anti-COVID vaccine developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology. The drug got emergency use approval from the government of India in April.

The Chief Minister made the statements while inaugurating a free vaccination facility at a government school in ITO. The center has been set up to vaccinate journalists and their family members.

“We have started this facility to vaccinate journalists and their family members in both 45+ and 18 to 44 age categories,” said Kejriwal.

Meanwhile, Delhi entered the unlock phase on Monday after a 45-day lockdown imposed in view of the deadly second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. So far, construction activities have been allowed in the state.

Earlier, the Delhi government announced financial assistance of Rs 2,500 every month till the age of 25 to those children orphaned due to COVID-19. The education of such children will also be sponsored by the state.
