Dhanteras will be observed this year on October 23, Sunday. Lord Dhanvantari is worshipped on the momentous occasion of Dhanteras, it is said to bring good luck and wealth.

Dhanteras is observed on the Trayodashi of Krishna Paksha in the Kartik month. On this day, devotees buy gold, silver, utensils, and jewellery. People shop for a wide range of goods on this day, but few are aware of what is auspicious and inauspicious to purchase on Dhanteras.

1. Gold and silver items

It is believed that purchasing gold and silver on Dhanteras is very propitious. It is said that the value of items purchased on this day increases exponentially. On this day, you can also purchase silver Lakshmi-Ganesh implanted coins.

2.  Vehicle

It is said that purchasing a vehicle on this day is auspicious. So, if you’re thinking about purchasing a car, bike, or scooter, Dhanteras is a great time to do so.

3. Cooking utensils

 Since utensils are regarded as a symbol of prosperity, Dhanteras is an ideal time to replenish your utensil rack. If one can afford it, purchasing gold, silver, or brass utensils and silverware, or kitchenware serves the same purpose. Utensils made of brass, copper, or silver should be used instead of those made of steel or iron, and they should be loaded with food or water before entering the residence. However, sharp objects like scissors, knives and pins should be avoided since these are associated with Rahu or evil omen. 

4. Idols of Ma Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh

It’s considered auspicious to buy small idols of Lord Ganesha and Ma Lakshmi on this day. The idols can be made of metal or clay. However, it is important to keep the idols in the right direction in your house, to allow divinity to reign in your life and ensure the well-being of your family. 

5. Gomti Chakra 

 It is believed that Gomti Chakra is dear to Maa Lakshmi, so people should buy it and bring it home on Dhanteras and worship it in the evening while worshipping Goddess Lakshmi. It is also very auspicious to keep the Gomti Chakra in your locker.
