Former US President Donald Trump has added three more lawyers to represent him in the impeachment case, reports CNN. Now, a total of five criminal defense lawyers are in Trump’s impeachment defence team. 

Trump’s team is joined by Johnny Gasser and Greg Harris, who are two prominent defence lawyers from South Carolina, along with a North Carolina defence lawyer, Joshua Howard.

Harris confirmed to CNN that, he and his law firm partner Gasser “are on the team,” adding that Trump has now five lawyers.

Meanwhile, North Carolina lawyer, Howard, in a court filing, disclosed that he has joined Trump’s defence team, and asked a judge to postpone an arraignment as he needs to be in Washington for the foreseeable future, reports CNN.

The former US President is facing an impeachment trial after a pro-conservation mob sieged the Capitol on January 6, before the Congress was set to certify Joe Biden as the next President of the United States. The attack on the US Capitol followed a video posted by Trump, where he had urged his followers to march to the legislature, falsely claiming that the November 3 presidential election was rigged.

Trump, charged with incitement of insurrection, was impeached by the Democrats-dominant House of Representatives for a second time and his trial will begin in the second week of February. 

Harris, talking about Trump, told CNN, “He’s putting it together. He’s making assignments. We’ve got a lot of work to do.”
