In an attacking fashion, Joe Root reverse swept Ravindra Jadeja for a single as England completed a record second innings run chase vs India in the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Tuesday. The hosts won by seven wickets. The series, the first leg of which was played in India, finished 2-2.
Former skipper Root and Jonny Bairstow shared a 269-run stand to take England to 378 runs in the second innings, which is the highest target successfully chased down vs India. The former brought up his 28th century in the format. He finished with 142 runs off 173 balls while the latter made 114.

Needing 119 more runs to register another blockbuster win of the summer, Bairstow and Root finished the proceedings half an hour before lunch.
India went into the test rearranged from last year leading 2-1 and on course for its first series win in England in 15 years. Instead, Jasprit Bumrah and co conceded its most ever runs in the fourth innings of a loss, and the series was drawn.
It was England’s fourth straight successful run chase after New Zealand was swept 3-0 last month under new captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum.
