Brett Lee, former Australian player, on Tuesday donated 1 Bitcoin to Crypto Relief for the purchase of oxygen supplies in Indian hospitals a day after his compatriot and cricketer Pat Cummins donated $50,000 to PM CARES Fund. 

Releasing a statement on his social media handles, Lee said, “India has always been like a second home for me. I feel privileged to be in a position of making a difference and with that in mind, I’d like to donate 1 BTC (Bitcoin) to Crypto Relief to help with the purchase of oxygen supplies for the hospitals across India.”

“Now is the time to be united and ensure we do as much as we can to help the ones in need. I’d also want to thank all the frontline workers who have been working round the clock during these tough times,” he added.

India is currently reporting over 3 lakh coronavirus cases everyday from past one week and the healthcare in the country is battered by shortage of oxygen and medicines. The US, UK, Australia and other countries have offered assistance to the Narendra Modi government. 

Over 40 US companies have pledged to help the country in this difficult times. Indian-origin Silicon Valley CEOs, including Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai have pitched in to help India.

Many states in the country have imposed curfew and weekend lockdown to stop the spread of the virus.
