Sri Lanka cricket great Mutthiah Muralitharan on Monday underwent successful coronary Angioplasty with stents. Muralitharan was admitted to Apollo Hospital for cardiac evaluation in Chennai on Sunday. He will be able to resume normal activities almost immediately after he gets discharged on Monday.

The bowling legend’s family said that the heart procedure was successful and the former cricketer had been discharged from the hospital on Monday itself. Muralitharan turned 49 on Saturday.

A family member told AFP, “He went to hospital for a check-up. It was not the result of a heart attack of any such emergency, but the doctors said it would be better to get a stent.”

The private Apollo Hospital in Chennai said Muralitharan was admitted on Sunday and underwent “successful coronary angioplasty with stents” allowing him to resume normal activity almost immediately.

Muralitharan is a part of the coaching staff of IPL’s Sunrisers Hyderabad, who has taken 800 Test wickets in 133 matches and stands at number one in the Test wickets ranking.
