Textile Industry got relief from Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as she announced “a scheme of Mega Investments Textile Park in addition to PLI Production Linked Incentive) Scheme which will create world-class infrastructure with plug and play facilities to enable global champions in exports” during Union Budget 21-22.
Her announcement brought a smile on the faces of many senior designers who are known for revolutionizing the sustainability with Textile and crafts both nationally and internationally.
Madhu Jain, a textile revivalist, says that being a member of All India Handloom Board, she is aware of textile policies and she is glad with new move.
“I am so glad that under the leadership of dynamic minister like Mrs Irani (Smriti Irani) efforts are made to rejuvenate the textile industry which has taken a huge hit off late and I think these policies are going to go long way into saving crafts techniques and providing financial assistance and impetus to weavers, artisans and the handloom and the textile sector of India and I think it’s a great move forward,” she told Opoyi.
Designer Paras Baroliya of Geisha designs says that “The Textile / Apparel industry contributes to 7 percent of industrial output and nearly 12 percent of the country’s exports.”
“This industry is the largest source of employment generation in the country(over 5 crore people employed directly / indirectly – including a very large section of women population) hence initiatives like the ones proposed in the budget by the H’ble Finance Minister will be a big boost to employment & continuity of indigenous crafts/skill sets. This is a big step towards Indian dream of being self-reliant (Aatm-Nirbhar),” he told Opoyi.
Gautam Gupta, the designer behind the label Asha Gautam, says that “The textile industry needs big support and the textile park seems to be a great step towards it.”
“Handloom industry needs more support as it is the biggest strength of our county and more and more steps will help it gain momentum. Hope with correct implementation this will make the dream of Make in India a bigger reality,” he told Opoyi.
