The Begum of Bollywood, Kareena Kapoor Khan turned 41 on Tuesday and toasted to another year of being gorgeous, talented and delivering hit box-office performances. Ever since the inception of her acting career, ‘Bebo’ is known for taking up challenging roles that are remembered for years.
Be it a glamourous snob Poo or the over-friendly and over-talkative Geet or maybe a bold and messed-up Chameli, Kareena Kapoor Khan created not just characters on screen but shades that are going to stay with the audience for eternity.
Today, on the occasion of Bebo’s birthday, let us revisit some of her iconic roles.
Poo aka Pooja, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
This is the character that put Kareena on the map with other Bollywood ladies. Pooja’s character was introduced on a screen as a simple, chirpy girl from Delhi’s Chandni Chowk but when Kareena takeover something it’s never for the usual.
Two minutes into the leap in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and enters Poo, in a backless pink top with a rocking song playing in the background. Poo is a straightforward and downright snob, extremely proud of her beauty. However, she also has a different, emotional and lovable side to her.
20 years have gone by, and Bollywood has yet not found another Poo cause there isn’t any.
Chameli, Chameli
In the initial days of her career, many people believed Kareena could only do commercial and glam up roles but by taking up a character as diverse and challenging as Chameli, Bebo made an excellent display of her acting prowess.
Chameli is a Mumbai-based sex worker, who is messed up with a dark past. She is trying to escape a man with AIDS, who is trying to have sex with her. Chameli is fierce, beautiful, straightforward and emotional.
Geet, Jab We Met
One can hardly forget Geet, thanks to her non-stop talks. Another character that is synonymous with the name Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Geet is a Sikhni from Bhatinda, who is madly in love with her good-for-nothing boyfriend Anshumann. She is talkative, spontaneous and full of life, so much so that she elopes for her boyfriend who has no idea about her plan. And then the drama unfolds but Geet remains Geet.
Kia, Ki and Ka
Ki and Ka, a movie that follows a much-needed shift from that usual Bollywood hero-heroine drama. Kareena Kapoor Khan plays Kia in the movie. A fiercely independent woman unabashedly dedicated to her career without being apologetic.
Kia marries Kabir and agrees to an arrangement where she is the sole earning member of the house. Kareena beautifully played the role and captured the struggles, challenges and importance of being a career-oriented family woman.
