Netflix India’s first interactive piece of entertainment, ‘Ranveer Singh vs Wild with Bear Gryllis’ is set to be released this weekend on July 8, 2022, bringing with it a chance for Indian viewers to really get into the meat of the show.
The premise is simple: Ranveer Singh is on the hunt for a flower that never wilts, and to make sure he doesn’t do anything too ‘Ranveer-y,’ Bear Grylls is along for the ride. According to the trailer, the special takes the pair through varied biomes, from dark caves to mountain peaks and across ravines.

Key to the show, however, is audience engagement. While some shows choose to use strong writing to keep you hooked for hours on end, this Netflix special puts viewers in the show. At some points during the show, viewers get to choose what Singh does.
Sitting at home, you can decide whether you want Ranveer Singh to dance for a bear that’s chasing him, or lie down and pretend to be dead, or, you can choose how he gets across to the other side of a ravine, does he rappel down the side of it or, does he hook himself on to a mountaineering line and pull himself across? The trailer even spends some time telling you that you can decide what he eats, maggots or testicles.
True to the excesses of Bollywood, we get to see Ranveer Singh huff and puff and be adamant about his desire to find this flower that does not wilt, for the love of his life Deepika Padukone (who also happens to be his wife).
This isn’t the first piece of interactive fiction that India’s Netflix audience is getting access to. Netflix’s first piece of interactive content, ‘Bandersnatch’, made its way on to the scene back in 2018, surprising much of the video platform’s viewership, paving the way for more of the same on the streaming service. Interactive content seems to be slowly making its way into mainstream video entertainment, and it is only a matter of time before what we watch, become similar to video games.
