The counting of votes in West Bengal for assembly election results is underway. West Bengal is a 294-assembly state. However, only polling was held on only 292 seats and the results for the same would be declared on Sunday after the counting of votes is completed.

Polling on two seats was deferred due to the death of the contestants. Polling on those seats will be held later in May.

A party or alliance needs to win over 148 seats to form government in the state of West Bengal. As per the early trends, Mamata Banerjee’s TMC has crossed halfway mark in the state.

At 11 am, the Election Commission’s website showed the CM Mamata Banerjee-led party leading in 158 seats, 11 seats more than the halfway mark, with the BJP leading in 74.
