Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, Congress leader and lawmaker Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday tweeted a cartoon with a caption that spoofed two mega-events — Howdy Modi and Namaste Trump — held in honour of the two leaders.

“Howdy Achhedin! Namaste Tantrump!,” the member of Parliament from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram tweeted tagging the cartoonist @satishacharya.

Tharoor, a former diplomat, is often vocal about international and domestic events and has earlier also commented on the ‘bonhomie’ between Trump and Modi. In a tweet on November 4, the Congress leader, referred to the Howdy Modi and Namaste Trump events, wrote. “The price of Namo’s bromance: Kashmir & the NorthEast cut off from the rest of India, &the whole “filthy” place relegated by Don Jr to the realm of hostiles, along with China & Mexico. So much for the crores spent on obsequious serenading stadium events!”

‘Namaste Trump’ was the name given to a tour of India by the US President, on February 24 and 25. It was Trump’s first visit to India. The tour was originally named “Kem Chho Trump” but was later renamed.

‘Howdy, Modi’ was another mega event held in Houston, US, on September 22, 2019, where about 50,000 people of Indian origin from across the US were present. It was the largest ever gathering of the Indian-origin people in the US where PM Modi famously coined the slogan, “Ab ki Baar, Trump sarkar”, pitching for a second term for the President.
