The International Cricket Council (ICC) in a press release on Friday announced that it is set to introduce a new technology to enable tracking off the bat in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The marquee tournament starts on Sunday, October 17 with hosts Oman taking on Papua New Guinea in the first group match. Team India will open their campaign against archrivals Pakistan on October 24.

“For the first time in cricket, we’ll also see tracking off the bat, which will be provided by Hawk-Eye in select matches, in addition to their ball tracking and edge detection services,” ICC said in its press release. Details about the bat tracking technology have not been released yet.

The world governing body of cricket also said that cable-suspended camera system Spidercam and cricket analytics service CricViz will also be integral elements of its TV coverage.
Apart from the technology part, ICC said that it will offer nearly 10,000 hours of live coverage across linear and OTT channels from its broadcast partners to fans in over 200 countries.
“The ICC TV production will see a minimum of 35 cameras at all venues,” the release further read.

The tournament’s radio coverage will be done with the help of platforms like AIR (All India Radio), BBC in the UK and ABC in Australia.
For its Indian audience, ICC will broadcast matches in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali and Malayalam.
The commentary panel for the T20 World Cup was also announced. The likes of Daren Sammy, Dale Steyn, Shane Watson, Nasser Hussain, Harsha Bhogle, Ian Bishop, Natalie Germanos, Sunil Gavaskar, Michael Atherton, Simon Doull, Russel Arnold, Anjum Chopra, Murali Kartik, Athar Ali Khan, Bazid Khan, Mpumelelo Mbangwa, Preston Mommsen, Danny Morrison, Mark Nicholas, Niall O’Brien and Alan Wilkins have been selected.
