Convoys of tractor trolleys bedecked with flowers and playing ‘victory songs’ on Saturday rolled out of the Singhu protest site, as farmers head home after over a year of agitation at the Delhi-Haryana border, which for many had become home.

To honour the day as ‘Vijay Diwas’, some farmers performed ‘havans’, sang ‘kirtans’, and danced to ‘bhangra’ songs before bidding farewell to Singhu.

On November 26, last year, farmers from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh assembled in large numbers here to protest three government farm policies and seek their repeal.

The regulations were overturned by Parliament last month, and after the government agreed to additional farmer requests, including a panel to provide legal assurance on MSP, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha declared on Thursday that the demonstration would be called off.

Farmers hugged and congratulated one other on the success of their movement, promising to keep the relationships formed over the previous year intact.
