India bacame the first Test side in the history of the game to see all batsmen out caught in a match. Virat Kohli and company recorded the feat against South Africa when the last batsman, Jasprit Bumrah, miscued a full delivery towards cover-point for Bavuma to take a comfortable catch. The visitors scored 198 runs in the second innings, setting a 212-run target for the Proteans. In response, Dean Elgar’s men 101/2 at stumps, needing 111 runs to win.

During India’s second innings, commentators on air pointed out that this is the first innings in the history of Test cricket that a batting lineup has lost all 20 wickets, both innings, via caught out. Not a single batsman was dismissed to an LBW or bowled. 

There have been five instances in the game’s 145-year history that 19 batsmen have fallen to catches. The first time was in 1982/83 when all but one English batsmen were caught out against Australia in Brisbane. Pakistan were dismissed in a similar fashion against the Aussies in the 2009/10 tour.

There were five previous instances of 19 dismissals each.

“It’s unheard of. Something we don’t see everyday. How often do you see a team losing 20 wickets in a Test match and all of them to catches?” he said at the end of the Indian innings,” Former South Africa pacer Shaun Pollock on air said.

Rishabh Pant guided India to a fighting 212 runs with an unbeaten 100 off 139 balls. The Indian wicketkeeper batsman six boundaries and four sixes during his stay. 

Marco jansen was the best amongst South African bowlers. He recorded figures of 4/36. Most of the Indian wickets to fall were caught behind with Aiden Markram, Dean Elgar and wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne completing two catches each.

This was also the lowest all-out total that include a century for India.
