India retained its 142nd rank among 180 countries in the latest World Press Index, continuing its “bad” for journalism reputation. The report released by journalism non-profit Reporters Without Borders (RSF) on Tuesday stated that India shares the reputation of bad journalism with countries like Brazil, Mexico, and Russia. India ranked 142 out of 180 nations, being one of the most dangerous nations for honest and hardworking journalists.

The report read those honest and unbiased journalists are often referred to as  ‘anti-state, ‘pro-terrorist,  or even ‘anti-national’ by the ruling party supporters.

The released report by RSF also mentioned the fact that the pro-government media are giving a platform for propaganda. The report also states that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a tight grip on the media.

India had consistently slipped down from 133rd position since 2016. Nepal(106) is high in the South Asian Neighbourhood with other countries like Sri Lanka (127), Myanmar (140), Pakistan (145), and Bangladesh (152).

The entire World Press Index list was topped by Norway, followed by other Nordic nations like Finland (2), Sweden (3), Denmark (4), and the Netherlands (6).
