With the average download speed of 12.07 Mbps in September, India ranked 131st on Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index, slipping down two positions in the mobile internet speed department. Meanwhile, on the fixed broadband speeds of 46.47 Mbps, the country has gained two spots and has been placed  70th on the index. 

According to Ookla, India’s rank, in both these cases, rank below the average global average, and in the mobile department, the nation is also behind the neighbouring countries such as Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. 

The global average of mobile download speed, according to Ookla Speedtest Global Index for September 2020, is 32.26 Mbps, while that of India is 12.07 Mbps. India is placed at 131, out of a total of 138 countries. 

Meanwhile, China is at the second spot on the index, with an average mobile download speed of 113.35 Mbps. With 19.95 Mbps, Sri Lanka is ranked at 102, and Pakistan is at 112th spot with 17.13 Mbps. Nepal is at 117th rank with 17.12 Mbps, and Bangladesh, trailing behind India, is ranked at 133 with 10.76 Mbps. 

India’s average mobile upload speed is 4.31 Mbps and latency is 52 ms, while the global average is 11.22Mbps and 42ms respectively. 

According to the Ookla, India, with an average download speed of 46.47 Mbps, is ranked 70th out of 175 nations in fixed linebroadband Internet speeds. India’s neighbouring countries, China is at 20th spot with 138.66Mbps, Sri Lanka is ranked 94th with 31.42Mbps. With the speed of 29.85Mbps, Bangladesh is at 98th position, Nepal is at 113th with 22.3 Mbps, while at speed of 10.10 Mbps, Pakistan is at 159th position. 

The global average download speed of fixed line broadband Internet is 85.73Mbps, upload speed is 45.74Mbps with latency of 21ms.
