With 27,176 cases of COVID cases recorded in the last 24 hours, India’s total infection tally now stands at 3,33,16,755, data from the Union Ministry of Health confirmed on Wednesday. India recorded 284 deaths, pushing the total death toll to 4,43,497.

Active cases in the country declined to 3,51,087 and comprise 1.09% of the total caseload. Meanwhile, a total of 38,012 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,25,22,171.

Data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) showed that a total of 16,10,829 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s cumulative testing tally to 54,60,55,796.

The Indian government has also administered 61,15,690 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in the last 24 hours, taking India’s cumulative vaccination tally to 75,89,12,277.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, 50 lakh on September 16, 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and the one-crore mark on December 19.The country crossed the grim milestone of two crore cases on May 4 and three crore on June 23.

The Health Ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to co-morbidities.

“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said.

In Maharashtra, as many as 10 districts – Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalna, Nanded, Akola, Amravati, Washim, Wardha, Gondia, and Gadchiroli (rural areas) and three municipal corporations – Malegaon, Chandrapur, and Dhule (urban centres) did not report any fresh Covid-19 cases in the state.
