has been in terrific form in IPL 2022. He started the season with a
brilliant two-wicket haul conceding 20 runs from four overs against Chennai
Super Kings
. He followed it up with another brace against Royal Challengers
Bangalore
. This time he conceded 16 runs from four overs. On Friday, in the
third outing, Umesh Yadav ripped through the Punjab Kings batting attack with a
three-wicket haul. This time he gave away 23 runs. Due to his superb
performance, supported by Andre Russell’s whirlwind batting, KKR defeated
Punjab Kings by six wickets and climbed the tip of the points table.

Umesh
Yadav has been adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his brilliant performance against PBKS on Friday.
With this performance, he went past the likes of Yusuf Pathan and Rohit Sharma,
among others, for a massive feat.

The
pacer now has the most number of ‘Player of the Match’ awards against a team in
the IPL. He was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ against PBKS for a record sixth
time on Friday. Yusuf Pathan had previously held the record, with 5 against the
now-defunct Deccan Chargers. Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma and former IPL
star Chris Gayle also won the ‘Player of the Match’ award five times each
against Kolkata Knight Riders.

After
Umesh Yadav’s 4 for 23 bundled out PBKS for 137 in 18.2 overs, Rahul Chahar
raised PBKS’ hopes with a double-wicket maiden to reduce KKR to 51 for four in the seventh over.

However,
Andre Russell made his presence felt for the first time in IPL 2022 with a
blitzkrieg 70 off 31 balls as KKR registered a
six-wicket win over the Punjab side at the Wankhede Stadium.

Rusell’s
innings took KKR home in 14.3 overs. The Jamaican all-rounder smashed five
sixes to complete his half-century in just 25 deliveries. He hit three more sixes
to remain unbeaten 70 off 31.

So
far KKR have won two matches in three outings and topped the IPL points table
with four points.
