Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday confirmed that the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League will be held in India. A mega auction will be held before the season. 

IPL 2020 and a part of IPL 2021 were shifted to the United Arab Emirates due to the COVID outbreak in India.

Speaking at The Champions Call’ event in Chennai, organised to celebrate Chennai Super Kings’ victory in IPL 2021, Shah said, “I know you all are waiting to see the CSK play at Chepauk. Well, the moment is not very far. The 15th season of the IPL will take place in India and it will be more exciting than ever with two new teams joining.”

“We have a mega auction coming up, so it will be interesting to see what the new combinations look like,” he added.

The upcoming IPL will see two new teams – Ahmedabad and Lucknow – participate. A mega-auction will be held ahead of the season.

Altough, there is no official word on the details of the auction yet, reports say that the eight existing franchises will be able to retain a maximum of four players each. The two new teams can pick up three players each ahead of the auction.  Unlike the previous big auction in 2018, where teams had the opportunity to use Right-To-Match (RTM) cards at the auction, this time nothing of that is being planned.

With England’s tour of India, the country welcomed international cricket for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. New Zealand are currently facing the Men in Blue in a three-match T20I series, which will be followed with two Tests.
