cabinet meeting, held earlier in 2020. Initially, ten officials were appointed
and around 85 other posts were created, to allow Bajali to come under new
administration.
Sarbananda Sonowal, the Chief Minister of the state, declared it was a
great day for the people of Assam and would pave the way for faster development
of its cultural and educational hub. Notably, Bajali was recognized as a
district in December 2020, when protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act had
reached its peak in Assam.
While the people of Bajali had been making demands to be upgraded from a
sub-district to a district for a long time, this move was met with muted
applause due to the situational political turmoil in India.
